2020…New Year, New Field!

We are thrilled to announce that the next step of our field project is a GO! Working diligently to ensure a comprehensive plan in place, we can now provide details which will see our teams begin training on brand new, top quality, grass surface at WAC in January. The plan includes resurfacing both soccer fields, which we will have priority access to the East field (our current Home Field) and optional use of the West Field.

We will begin by removing layers of old grass and topsoil, improving irrigation, then leveling and laser grading the surface. We will then install over 140,000 sq. feet of Over Seeded” “Bandera” Hybrid Bermuda sod.

As we move into our State Competitions and through the annual tryout process we are pleased to provide consistent field access with a long term commitment to Wilson Park turf fields and Wilmington Athletic Complex, home of Steel United.

“I would personally like to thank all of our members for their patience in this project and their commitment to our club. I’m excited to see the impact that these quality fields have on the development of our players” – Technical Director, Michael Quigley

Since our inception we have invested in a place we can call home, currently transforming our facility into something of which our players, families and coaches can be proud. Steel Sports Director of Coaching Steve Jones has led a nationwide effort to make sure all coaches are trained in the Steel Sports Coaching System. Our staff has been evaluated regularly and required to reflect on their training sessions and games as part of their professional development. Steel Soccer hired Paul Payne to lead and develop a collegiate pathway program for high school age players, and UEFA pro instructor Ian Hughes is now providing curriculum for our club.

With this strong foundation established in year one and the support from our parent company Steel Sports, our future is extremely bright. Each player, coach and family member is crucial to Steel United’s growth and success, and we thank you for being a part of our family.
